Education is the first line of defense in protecting our Operational K9s. That’s why our comprehensive training courses are designed to equip first responders, law enforcement agencies, and K9 handlers with the knowledge and skills needed to provide immediate medical care to injured Operational K9s.

First Responder Emergency K9 Care

We are one of the organizations in Wisconsin providing education to first responders on point of injury care for Operational K9s. Our highly technical content and hands-on training covers K9 emergency medical treatment to be rendered at the scene of injury prior to transport to higher level veterinary care.

Who We Train

Our specialized courses are designed for law enforcement K9 handlers, search and rescue handlers, firefighters, emergency medical services (EMS) personnel, and other first responders who would be present for Operational K9 emergencies in the field. We believe that everyone who works alongside these K9s should be equipped with the skills to provide life-saving care in an emergency.

What We Teach

Every second counts when it comes to providing emergency medical care to an injured K9. Our training courses are focused on practical, hands-on instruction that can be applied immediately in the field, and cover a wide range of topics, including:

  • Point of Injury Medical Care
  • K9 CPR
  • Basic K9 Restraint and Transport
  • Wound Care and Bandages
  • Hemorrhage Control
  • Narcan Administration

Our Courses

Training is delivered by our team of experienced veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and members of the human medical community from across Wisconsin. Together, we offer a variety of courses to meet a range of needs and expertise, from basic to advanced levels.

K9 Point Of Injury Care

Our 4 hour K9 point of injury care course provides basic information on caring for operational K9s at the point of injury. This course combines a didactic lecture and hands-on instruction with live dogs, making it a comprehensive educational experience. This course is a prerequisite for all our other courses. We do travel to locations that have fairly large training facilities that can accommodate lecture, K9s and hands on rotations.

K9 Point Of Injury Care: Advanced Skills

For those looking to take their skills to the next level, our advanced 2-hour course combines basic and advanced point of injury medical care for the operational K9. This course — which utilizes robotic dogs, cadavers, and real-life scenarios — is designed for first responders, K9 handlers, and other medical paraprofessionals. The advanced courses are held in our Appleton office.

K9 Refresher

This condensed course is ideal for K9 handlers and first responders who have already completed our basic and advanced skills courses. It’s a 2 hour refresher that incorporates both the handlers and their K9s. No lecture format here — it’s all about hands-on practice and reinforcement.

We are committed to helping train and educate those in our community who keep us safe. We aim to ensure that every person who works with operational K9s is equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to provide immediate, life-saving care.
